AMHA? MGO?DHA? Leptosperin?

Australian Manuka Honey Association (AMHA) announced mark of quality to the Australian Manuka honey, to increase confidence when consumed by customers.

The Criteria for Defining Australian Manuka honey require that:

  1. Methylglyoxal (MGO), for Potency
  2. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) for ShelfLife
  3. Leptosperin for Authenticity (marker)

are all present in the honey, with the testing required to be conducted by an independent analytical laboratory.

  • To bear the ‘Authorised’ mark, products must be tested to contain at least:
        • MGO ≥ 30 mg/kg (or ppm) 
        • DHA≥ 60 mg/kg (or ppm)
        • Leptosperin ≥ 100 mg/kg (or ppm)
  • To bear the ‘Authentic’ mark, products must be tested to contain at least:
    • MGO ≥ 85 mg/kg (or ppm) 
    • DHA≥ 170 mg/kg (or ppm)
    • Leptosperin ≥ 200 mg/kg (or ppm)
